Fred Voigt Becker combines screen-printed patterns and hand painted surfaces that are both gestural and decorative. He relies on process and the subconscious and layers his imagery in a hybrid of the hand, heart, mind, and design. Fred exercises intentionality but allows for accident and creates patterns that invite violation.
In his paintings, lines retain their gestural origins and the shapes they create appear seed like or cell like. They repeat, not quite connecting, rolling over themselves, sometimes vivid and sometimes understated. The art-historical basis for this expression is the push-pull of color, line, and form on a flat plane. Fred’s job as an artist is to channel experience, memory, and awareness within a post abstract expressionist context.
Fred’s work utilizes oil paints and graphite. Screen-printing is used as a tool to apply paint to the ground in repetitive patterns. Fred has been a member of Core Art Space since 2020 and works at Blue Silo Studios.
