Gail Boyd and Grant Williams share a studio in the building on the second floor. They’ve both been in the studio for over ten years. Gail is primarily a printmaker and collage artist. She is also a second-generation frame maker, as well as the building’s florist. All throughout the building, you can find the petunias that she nurtures soaking up light.  Upon entering Gail and Grant’s studio, is a large platform, about four and a half feet high. It creates another loft-like level with a couch and desk atop. This is a brilliant way to preserve space on the ground for their printing press and work tables. It also provides much-needed storage beneath. The loft creates a haven for relaxation and contemplation. It feels like a little room within a room. Like many studios here, the corner areas are built to provide maximum storage space. The shelving is a gallery for a collection of antiques. Such as an old record player and a large speaker seemingly getting lost in all the organized chaos. This collection reaches endlessly toward the incredibly high ceiling. Studio #201 gets its best light in the afternoon. The studio’s big single-panel windows face West and look out toward those big twin beacons we recognize as the Blue Silos. In case you’re wondering, artists like Gail and Grant who share the same space, do not always work during the same time of day, and may not see each other for weeks. Nevertheless, the two artists are regulars in the building, always working on something.
