Jami has been at Blue Silo in this shared studio #203 since 2018, making collages and installations with mixed material from the time she arrived. By day Jami is the executive director of the nonprofit, Youth On Record. She uses her talent in leadership and creativity to connect others to immersive opportunities and further them in the art scene here in Denver. As you enter, you're greeted with Jami’s large wall sculptures formed from a variety of found material. She finds the most interesting objects and material from her walks around the neighborhood or her weekend visits to antique shops. Just above the area she works at, several of these intertwined objects hang freely like an installation on a gallery wall. Her working space is next to the main door of the studio space. She has organized her found materials and fresh paints to be at arm’s reach, ready to react when inspiration calls. Her art and creative practice show fervency and openness. This is also clear in the assemblages and wire sculptures she makes whenever she gets the chance. Although Jami isn’t a formally trained artist, you can see, in the work she makes, a relentlessness to experiment and express those inner curiosities. This free and open practice is a break from the usual workweek she’s been so dedicated to for many years. The space Jami has created for herself is as non-judgemental as the raw expression she puts on canvas. It reflects a place that gives room to that inner creative spirit, like the many artists who reside here.
